My wife (Lou) and I purchased the cafe early in 2022- as a new start-up business. Its nestled in the middle of the lush Russell’s Garden Centre in Baginton, Coventry. The garden centre covers over 6 acres along the river Sowe and includes a beautiful Secret Quarry Garden, Spooky Hedge Maze and Wildflower Meadow, along with a community Miniature Railway and a number of specialist award winning nurseries, and independent businesses.

The vibe we have gone for is rustic and homely, with a combination of seating inside within the conservatory, covered outdoor seating area, and traditional outdoor seating under garden parasols. We have extensively upgraded the existing counter area with reclaimed wooden shelves and features, new display fridges and kitchen equipment, new furniture inside and out, plus extensively rebuilt a dilapidated outside, now covered, area, giving the venue over 75 covers in total. Loads more scope to improve further.

The business employs 18 staff from 15 years to 75 years old, with an emphasis on people first, wellbeing and family values. We enlist the support of local accountants and HR companies, and cover everything else ourselves from menus, marketing, and social media.

Ten months into our first year we managed to scoop a national award - 'Independent Garden Centre Caterer of the Year 2022'
